Part of what makes the actions in The Chronicles of Riddick so impressive is that they work in concert with the backdrop of the game, which is created by the fantasy designer known as Realms the author of the Mirrors Edge and Ghost in the Shell series and Trinity, among others. The prison exterior, which you pass through as you leave Butcher Bay, is an elaborately-detailed part of the level design. The environment is a constant reminder that youre even on the run from a hostile force, and that the game itself is a product of your actions. It provides a constant reminder that your escape isnt accidental; if youre going to escape, there are only a few ways, and theres a good chance you might get caught.

Like Chronicles of Riddick, Battlefield 3 includes a few segments where the camera briefly takes on a third-person perspective. While this doesn’t detract from the game, the fact that theyre in a first-person game causes me to pause. It makes me think that the game and its controls could be modeled better after Game of Thrones, whose medieval fantasy style, I thought, worked better with FPS games. This is such a bizarre idea that I imagine many, many more people can think of solutions to it. Perhaps I’m underselling the game, in which case I apologise. It’s a fine game anyway.

That world is so different than our world. We live in a world where we have had to repeatedly struggle against those in authority to protect ourselves from the whims of people in power. Riddicks world solves this by having new Gods every fifty years. The 50 year cycle brings new Gods, and so the old Gods are not as overbearing, and the people accept them more easily. Hes right about this. The Gods are reasonable creatures who dont interfere too much with people unless they really start acting out. They are so engrossed in themselves and their own affairs, they just set the world in motion. They offer the occasional health check, and the occasional philosophy lesson. 3d9ccd7d82
